» Christmas animal magic

The Downton Abbey style setting of The Mansion House at Old Warden Park was the setting for a traditional Christmas gathering for friends and neighbours.

The added twist was a trip on Santa's tractor trailer to the "animal magic" centre of Shuttleworth College where students learn how to care for creatures from around the world.

Families who took the trip were amazed at how many animals there were to see there - under the expert guidance of the specialist education and training team led by Carl Groombridge.

General Manager of The Mansion House, Andrew Keen and his team of wedding and event staff greeted visitors and served up a sumptuous afternoon tea.

» Tracy is Wedding Planner

Following on from the success of the TV show: Don’t Tell the Bride at The Mansion House at Old Warden, near Biggleswade, there is more good news: Tracy Butterfield, the Wedding Planner, is on set.

Tracy will be managing weddings and other events at The Mansion House, the former home of the Shuttleworth family, now part of Bedford College and run by its commercial subsidiary BCS Ltd.

Said Tracy: “I am delighted to join the team at The Mansion House.

“Having previously worked at a stately home I understand the exceptional qualities The Mansion House has to offer and I look forward to welcoming all brides and guests who visit for weddings and events.”

Tracy has a wealth of experience in events and was involved in more than 60 weddings last year.  She is passionate about wedding occasions and will extend a warm welcome to all prospective clients. Her meticulous planning and the way in which she oversees the co-ordination of events, means bridal parties will be in very capable hands.

General Manager Andrew Keen said: “We have a fabulous house, in gorgeous green grounds and are investing in our facilities all the time. Come and see for yourselves at our open event on Sunday October 19th.”

» TV films Don't Tell the Bride

TV has once again focusing on Old Warden Park near Biggleswade – this time for Don’t Tell the Bride.

The BBC 3 programme features a bridegroom making all the big decisions about his wedding day – and surprising his fiancee with the results. Bridegroom David Saunders of Godmanchester, Cambs, was former animal welfare student at Shuttleworth College at Old Warden Park and The Mansion House was his dream location.

Filming took place in March 2014.

General Manager of BCS Ltd, which runs the venue on behalf of Bedford College, is Andrew Keen. He said: “As ours is a dream stately home style location for many couples and we were delighted to work with the TV team to show off our beautiful parkland property.”

*In January 2014 Old Warden Park and the farmlands of Shuttleworth College, again part of Bedford College, were featured in a Jamie Oliver cookery programme: Friday Night Feast which showcased locally grown food and recipes. Filming involve 100s of local people took place in July 2013.

Don’t Tell the Bride was screened on Tuesday September 9th.

» Chef meets hero Jamie Oliver

Chef Adam Thorpe celebrated his 21st birthday in style – by meeting his hero Jamie Oliver at The Mansion House. The Mansion House hospitality team prepared lunch for Jamie’s TV crew who were filming at Kingshill Farm on Old Warden Park.

Adam took the chance to meet his hero – and get some of his treasured recipe books signed by the top chef. Jamie Oliver has been the inspiration for many young people to become carve out careers for themselves in the hospitality industry.

Andrew Keen is the new General Manager of Bedford College Services (BCS) Ltd which includes The Mansion House, Old Warden Park.

Formerly at the Bedford Swan Hotel, Andrew is experienced in the hospitality industry and is making sure the service matches the fantastic surroundings. Andrew is a volunteer operational first aider with the local St John Ambulance giving over 300 hours last year.

“No sooner had I taken over than TV crews were filming a wedding showcase at The Mansion House.

“The episode of Don’t Tell the Bride will be screened this summer and shows the happy couple ‘taking off’ in a hot air balloon.

“The beautiful setting here makes it a dream location for weddings and other family occasions – I hope that we can look forward to hosting more for people from the local area in the future.

“There are plans for further improvements as a wedding venue at The Mansion House – but more on that later in the year.”
